And thank you for giving us how you are feeling about the end - the challenging end - of the 2020 school year.

29:58
Sebastian, are there more webinars available

31:08
our main struggle was lack of reliable internet access for our students to work from home.

32:33
Kathie - there are many more webinars as part of our Virtual Learning Series. They can be viewed at https://exploreinside.ngl.cengage.com

33:06
Meerkat looks bored and uninterested

33:34
I look like that when I do observations of some classes.

Thank you!

36:05
can we get a certificate for this? for proof of professional development?

38:36
Rich and Rob's Site is Drrsgroi.com

40:09
Amen

41:10
I would also like a certificate for PD proof please.

41:24
me too!

41:40
same here

42:10
If you need a certificate of attendance, kindly email me at kristin.canterbury@cengage.com

42:48
I will not be able to send certificates to requests submitted via this chat - please email me directly.

42:55
We probably all do need the certificate for professional learning points.

43:25
I hope the PD certificate is possible. This is great conversation to start with the coordinators/directors at the district level.

43:35
Sebastian said in the Q&A we'll be receiving a certificate via email.

43:40
Will email - Thanks!

43:42
yes,we need a certificate.

44:16
Thank you.

44:20
Yes, you will receive a certificate of attendance via email IF you send me a request! If you need a certificate of attendance, kindly email me at kristin.canterbury@cengage.com

44:31
Whenever I teach this course, there is never a curriculum.

44:37
Please email Kristin and you'll be taken care of with a certificate. Bonita - we agree! this is a great conversation starter as you pitch to coordinators. Our NGL Sales Team can help you with that.

44:48
Can you refer me to a curiculum I can use for this course?

45:08
Kimberly - NGL.Cengage.com/FinancialAlgebra

45:32
Kindly understand that certificate of attendance requests will be sent ONLY if you send requests to me via email at kristin.canterbury@cengage.com

46:27
top tax rate didn't mean 91 cents out of every dollar went to govt -- only 91 cents out of every dollar in the top range -- dollars below are taxed at lower rates

46:32
I cannot find it on that page

48:36
Its just showing the Table of Contents of the book. : (

48:42
nice

50:02
Is there a learning component here - or are we just here for a time-share talk??

51:49
great question

52:14
Why is National Geographic's name on this? Are they the publisher?

52:17
Kimberly - i can reach out to you directly. if you take a look at our online catalog at https://ngl.cengage.com/esamples/15376/31324/index.html and navigate to page 308, you will find what you need.

52:25
Good question Jennifer

52:32
Questions

54:02
I believe National Geographic Learning is part of Cengage.

54:08
Jennifer, yes - National Geographic Learning is the publisher of Financial Algebra

54:21
I think this is a sales pitch no?

55:12
Hi Dianna, we wanted to shed some light on what the Financial Algebra curriculum includes.

55:22
Oh I love it!

55:31
We hope that this sounds relevant and important to your students.

55:53
Its relevancy is what I've been looking :)

56:00
looking for*

56:37
aside from the textbook, what resources are available to teachers?

57:31
Rich and Rob are authors and provide unbiased resources on their sites. They are subject experts that are sharing content they present at non-commercial sessions at conferences such as NCTM and NCSM

57:55
I second Anthony's question. I have a sample text and tried to get the course approved last year. We will be editing our proposal and trying again this year, but in the meantime - what teacher materials are there? Pacing guide? Activities? Assessments? Reproducible Worksheets?

58:44
Jennifer - yes, online it is.

59:23
I think I saw all of that on the website that they mentioned earlier.

59:30
my school is very interested in PBL for next year with the uncertainty of time to be spent in the classroom, are there ways this can be adapted to that type of learning?

59:50
Lots of resources if you scroll down on their website: https://www.drrsgroi.com/

01:00:14
Is there a place to find projects that could be integrated into this course?

01:00:55
Would you say the prereq for this course is Algebra 1? We currently use Business Math (textbook by Cengage). However, it is not NCAA approved. How would you differentiate between students taking "Business Math" and students taking "Advanced Algebra with Financial Applications..."

01:01:29
yes.

01:01:33
Good question, Joyce. we can have the presenters address this during Q and A

01:01:53
Thank you. Should I post the question there?

01:02:05
no need. i have it and will present it :-)

01:02:09
Great!

01:02:35
In 2011, Cengage Learning acquired the National Geographic Society's school publishing unit, and combined this school business with the Global ELT business to create and launch the National Geographic Learning brand. The global brand combined the former Cengage Learning ELT and National Geographic School Publishing imprints and sub-brands under one unified identity.

01:02:45
Just to add more resources for folks, NCTM has a few publications on financial literacy and NGPF has materials/workshops as well.

01:03:24
So many ideas provided here. My wheels are turning and thinking of many ways these topics can be used in my class even if my district is unable to purchase this resource

01:03:52
so there is no access to these projects unless you buy the text for the course?

01:04:03
Stacey - glad to hear! Thanks the point

01:04:03
Are these slides taken from a textbook? Are they selling a course or textbook to school district?

01:04:31
Are they selling lesson plans?

01:04:52
This is a sales pitch for the textbook. I have the 2011 edition and it is quite good.

01:05:44
I have been teaching a course since 2014 using the textbook and can say it has a lot of examples. It’s quite easy to design lessons using the book.

01:06:02
Check out https://www.drrsgroi.com/ for access to additional activities and resources, as well.

01:07:55
If you teach this course and combine it with Excel, it’s a winner - students and parents will love it.

01:08:00
So glad to know you address payday loans! I live and teach in Missouri and we have the least restrictions on those kind of predatory loans. I don't know much about these, and I want to be able to teach my students about it.

01:09:58
Your pacing guide covers 207 school days. Do you have pacing guides from teachers who have actually taught this in a standard 5 day schedule and in an A/B block schedule?

01:10:27
So where is the link to the textbook?

01:10:57
https://ngl.cengage.com/search/productOverview.do?Ntt=financial+algebra|682711748191155274820190329222607158&N=4294918395+201&Ntk=NGL%7CP_EPI&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&homePage=false

01:11:27
I don’t see any activities or additional resources on the site. there are just links to pacing guide, course proposal, and a section of the textbook

01:12:18
Agree Anthony. I was hoping to get some project help for a real world PBL based class.

01:13:23
There are more downloads on the page for the previous edition: https://ngl.cengage.com/search/productOverview.do?Ntt=financial+algebra|17491485152035858195146152702542183641&N=201+4294918395&Ntk=NGL%7CP_EPI&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&homePage=false

01:15:09
still getting an error

01:15:09
Anyone teaching this for the first time next year?

01:15:20
I will be.

01:15:25
I will

01:15:30
I’m thinking about using this to replace standard precalc

01:15:43
That is what my school did

01:15:46
Anthony, seems to be an issue on your end, maybe try a different browser on your computer

01:15:56
I teach an applied senior math that needs a major upgrade. This is looking promising

01:16:11
We are going to be using Dave Ramsey's curriculum

01:16:12
I am too! Would any of you be interested in collaborating?

01:16:20
For your schools replacing PreCalc, do they still offer standard PreCalc or did they get rid of it all together?

01:16:23
@Dave me too.

01:16:30
Desmos also has free app for android & iphone

01:16:52
This has been a great overview - thanks!

01:17:04
My school offers this course for weaker students over two years. Precalc is available for others

01:17:15
Thanks Jeff!

01:17:20
Very informative; THANK YOU!

01:17:20
thank you for this presentation.

01:17:54
thank you for this presentation

01:18:06
Is it possible to request a sample textbook?

01:18:12
Thank you! Extremely useful knowledge!

01:18:15
How can we get a sample book to review and present to our district?

01:18:19
Great overview! Thanks for taking the time to share and introduce.

01:18:22
Thank you!!

01:18:24
Thank you - enjoyed the presentation.

01:18:26
Is it possible to request a sample textbook?

01:18:37
Thank you!

01:18:56
Good question Vincent

01:19:19
we are looking for honors level alternative for students who have taken alg2 and/or precalc but don't want AP Calculus or AP Statistics. Is there a higher level version of this curriculum?

01:19:22
yes! a sample text would be amazing

01:19:41
I am interested in a sample text as well!

01:19:46
this course is not a tutorial towards algebra 2.

01:20:16
In Massachusetts, students are required to complete four years of math to attend public college and my department has tried to implement a selection of semester electives for struggling students to fill those last two years. As an Algebra 2 teacher that works with the lowest level students, I have found that counselors don’t easily approve of switching students out of the traditional Alg 2/Precalculus pathway and into the statistics and financial literacy pathway. I have heard them concerned about this “limiting their opportunities” later on. As I see it, forcing students to sit in a traditional Alg 2 class could be much more harmful. Have you dealt with similar resistance from students, parents or school counselors? If so, how did you deal with?

01:20:27
I imagine that the continuation may be Probability and Statistics.

01:21:09
Here is link to order a sample book. https://ngl.cengage.com/search/productOverview.do?Ntt=financial+algebra|17491485152035858195146152702542183641&N=201+4294918395&Ntk=NGL%7CP_EPI&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&homePage=false

01:22:09
Do we get any sample of textbook?

01:22:12

01:22:34

01:22:35
Thank you for this webinar!

01:22:46

01:22:47

01:22:56
Thank you for your time and information.

01:22:59
Great webinar! Thanks for the opportunity.

01:23:28
Thanks for this informative webinar.

01:23:50
please help with adapting text to pbl

01:23:56
I attended this webinar with the recommendation from the Dean of Academics at my school. I only attended thinking...this is going to be the same as Business Math. It seems very different and I am happy I attended!
