Bonita Glover
43:25
I hope the PD certificate is possible. This is great conversation to start with the coordinators/directors at the district level.
Hans Manske
43:35
Sebastian said in the Q&A we'll be receiving a certificate via email.
Bonita Glover

Whenever I teach this course, there is never a curriculum.
Sebastian Andino
44:37
Please email Kristin and you'll be taken care of with a certificate. Bonita - we agree! this is a great conversation starter as you pitch to coordinators. Our NGL Sales Team can help you with that.
Kimberly Adams
44:48
Can you refer me to a curiculum I can use for this course?
Sebastian Andino
45:08
Kimberly - NGL.Cengage.com/FinancialAlgebra

I believe National Geographic Learning is part of Cengage.
Kristin Canterbury
54:08
Jennifer, yes - National Geographic Learning is the publisher of Financial Algebra
Dianna Hazelton
54:21
I think this is a sales pitch no?
Kristin Canterbury
55:12
Hi Dianna, we wanted to shed some light on what the Financial Algebra curriculum includes.
Dianna Hazelton
55:22
Oh I love it!
Kristin Canterbury
55:31
We hope that this sounds relevant and important to your students.
Dianna Hazelton

Anthony Penoro
56:37
aside from the textbook, what resources are available to teachers?
Sebastian Andino
57:31
Rich and Rob are authors and provide unbiased resources on their sites. They are subject experts that are sharing content they present at non-commercial sessions at conferences such as NCTM and NCSM
Sarah Leivian
57:55
I second Anthony's question. I have a sample text and tried to get the course approved last year. We will be editing our proposal and trying again this year, but in the meantime - what teacher materials are there? Pacing guide? Activities? Assessments? Reproducible Worksheets?
Sebastian Andino
58:44
Jennifer - yes, online it is.
Gabrielle Zisblatt
59:23
I think I saw all of that on the website that they mentioned earlier.
Anthony Penoro
59:30
my school is very interested in PBL for next year with the uncertainty of time to be spent in the classroom, are there ways this can be adapted to that type of learning?
Julia Harris
59:50
Lots of resources if you scroll down on their website: https://www.drrsgroi.com/
Laura Lockwood
01:00:14
Is there a place to find projects that could be integrated into this course?
Joyce Wise
01:00:55
Would you say the prereq for this course is Algebra 1? We currently use Business Math (textbook by Cengage). However, it is not NCAA approved. How would you differentiate between students taking "Business Math" and students taking "Advanced Algebra with Financial Applications..."
Naomi Newberger
01:01:29
yes.
Sebastian Andino
01:01:33
Good question, Joyce. we can have the presenters address this during Q and A
Joyce Wise
01:01:53
Thank you. Should I post the question there?
Sebastian Andino
01:02:05
no need. i have it and will present it :-)
Joyce Wise
01:02:09
Great!
Mark Stanton
01:02:35
In 2011, Cengage Learning acquired the National Geographic Society's school publishing unit, and combined this school business with the Global ELT business to create and launch the National Geographic Learning brand. The global brand combined the former Cengage Learning ELT and National Geographic School Publishing imprints and sub-brands under one unified identity.
Geoffrey Enriquez
01:02:45
Just to add more resources for folks, NCTM has a few publications on financial literacy and NGPF has materials/workshops as well.
Stacey Hatchett
01:03:24
So many ideas provided here. My wheels are turning and thinking of many ways these topics can be used in my class even if my district is unable to purchase this resource
Lauren Rice
01:03:52
so there is no access to these projects unless you buy the text for the course?
Sebastian Andino
01:04:03
Stacey - glad to hear! Thanks the point
Andrea Thies
01:04:03
Are these slides taken from a textbook? Are they selling a course or textbook to school district?
Andrea Thies
01:04:31
Are they selling lesson plans?
Jon Churchill
01:04:52
This is a sales pitch for the textbook. I have the 2011 edition and it is quite good.
Jeff Gotel
01:05:44
I have been teaching a course since 2014 using the textbook and can say it has a lot of examples. It’s quite easy to design lessons using the book.
Sebastian Andino
01:06:02
Check out https://www.drrsgroi.com/ for access to additional activities and resources, as well.
Jeff Gotel
01:07:55
If you teach this course and combine it with Excel, it’s a winner - students and parents will love it.
Alexandra Potter
01:08:00
So glad to know you address payday loans! I live and teach in Missouri and we have the least restrictions on those kind of predatory loans. I don't know much about these, and I want to be able to teach my students about it.
Sarah Leivian
01:09:58
Your pacing guide covers 207 school days. Do you have pacing guides from teachers who have actually taught this in a standard 5 day schedule and in an A/B block schedule?
Andrea Thies
01:10:27
So where is the link to the textbook?

Anthony Penoro
01:11:27
I don’t see any activities or additional resources on the site. there are just links to pacing guide, course proposal, and a section of the textbook
Lauren Rice
01:12:18
Agree Anthony. I was hoping to get some project help for a real world PBL based class.
Andreana Wickstrom

I am too! Would any of you be interested in collaborating?

01:16:20
For your schools replacing PreCalc, do they still offer standard PreCalc or did they get rid of it all together?

we are looking for honors level alternative for students who have taken alg2 and/or precalc but don't want AP Calculus or AP Statistics. Is there a higher level version of this curriculum?
Anthony Penoro

Jessica Van Dusen
01:19:41
I am interested in a sample text as well!
Naomi Newberger
01:19:46
this course is not a tutorial towards algebra 2.
Karen Strader
01:20:16
In Massachusetts, students are required to complete four years of math to attend public college and my department has tried to implement a selection of semester electives for struggling students to fill those last two years. As an Algebra 2 teacher that works with the lowest level students, I have found that counselors don’t easily approve of switching students out of the traditional Alg 2/Precalculus pathway and into the statistics and financial literacy pathway. I have heard them concerned about this “limiting their opportunities” later on. As I see it, forcing students to sit in a traditional Alg 2 class could be much more harmful. Have you dealt with similar resistance from students, parents or school counselors? If so, how did you deal with?
Naomi Newberger
01:20:27
I imagine that the continuation may be Probability and Statistics.
Jeri Lynn Brown
01:21:09
